Abstract

In the present study, disodium salts of bisdithiocarbamates have been prepared from urea, thiourea, dithiooxamide and 1,3-diaminopropanewith carbon disulfide under strong alkaline medium of a sodium hydroxide solution. All ligands possessed good chelating ability for various metal ions. Metal complexes of urea bisdithiocarbamates was synthesized with Co (II), Ni (II), Zn (II), and Pb(II). The nature of metal complexes was amorphous and solid. The prepared ligands and complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, electronic, infrared (IR) spectroscopy, conductivity measurements, magnetic measurements and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Electronic spectra and magnetic measurements indicate that the complexes have contained octahedral geometry.

Keywords: Bisdithiocarbamates, bridging or chelating ligands, multidentate ligands, thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA)
